This Week:
Why Impeaching Clinton may not be a good idea
Although it sounds like a conservative's wet dream,
impeaching Bill Clinton
may not be a good thing for America in the long run. Most of
the damage he does on a regular basis is done through Executive Orders.
These could be undone in the next term if we had a president who really
cared about the future of this country. That pretty much eliminates any
Republicans and definitely Al Gore. And there in lies the problem. If
we take the obvious solution of either impeaching him or coercing him to
resign (fat chance), that means Al Gore would be in charge. If that
happens, you might as well kiss America goodbye. If he gets a "head
start" on the presidency by actually being in the office prior to the
2000 election, there will be no challenger who could defeat him. Then
it is another 4 to 8 years of the same old failed Liberal policies,
coupled with environmental extremism like no one has ever seen before.
He will maintain or expand all of the gun bans started by Bush and
expanded by Clinton, and the Fourth Amendment protection from
illegal search and seizure will be ancient history.
Even though the reasons to impeach Clinton are too numerous to list here,
I think it would really do more harm than good in the long run.
